AMVETS Services are freely provided to all veterans and their
families, but they are not free.....membership pays the bills.
Please join AMVETS today!
A well-trained veteran's service officer (VSO)
is crucial for many veterans applying for benefits from the VA.
A recent study by the institute for
Defense Analysis shows that wounded veterans who approach the VA without
professional assistance receive on the average about one-third of the
compensation that those who are represented by a lawyer or service
organization like AMVETS.
When you go to park your vehicle, make
sure you tell them you are there to visit the VA! |

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Cemetery Space for Veterans
As a Veteran you have the right to be buried in a Veterans
Cemetery. They will provide:
It is preferable to plan ahead. If you don't have a
family spot already for your Veteran or for your own space you should go ahead
and fill out an Application. Since the new
Cemetery at Ft. Knox is now up an running I would suggest you fill out an
application and you will receive an Acceptance Card which should be held on to
until needed. Then when your family contacts their Funeral Home of choice
you can give this card to them and they can contact the Cemetery and plan on
their roll. Space is available on first-come first-served basis but Fort
Knox is new and has plenty of space. Making use of this benefit can save a
family a lot of money and insure their loved ones grave is well maintained.
To obtain an application
go to the following page. (Click
Here)
You can do this well in advance and eliminate any worry about
Cemetery space for your loved one.

HONOR FLIGHT NETWORK SUMMIT 2008
Hello Everyone,
We are rapidly approaching our goal of 5000 WWII Veterans flown
by the end of 2007. We are now in 17 states and growing
rapidly. Our goal for 2008 it to fly 10,000 WWII Veterans out
and back home SAFELY to their families.
The summit is an opportunity for us all to share information,
exchange ideas, learn for one another's mistakes and successes,
negotiate with our supplies as a organization to take advantage
of airfare, tour bus, meal discounts, etc. The conference will
be attended by people like you from all over the country.
Presenters will be others who are accomplished site
organizers successful at transporting veterans from small rural
areas and large cities. You will learn about fund raising,
organizing a board, media relations, health care issues
regarding the transport of seniors, air carriers, bus service,
agendas, tour sites, local and national business support and
much more. The bottom line is to get more veterans to THEIR
memorial in a better, safer, more efficient and economical way.
For these veterans, this is their "last hurrah," and none of us
are given another chance to get the WWII Veteran's trip done
right a second time.
We are planning a second annual Honor Flight Network Summit in
Washington DC, the first or second weekend in February. Last
year, we ordered 10 rooms and ended up with over 50 people
attending. This year, there may be as many as 300 people
attending because of our rapid growth and growing curiosity
across the country.
We are needing a rough estimate about how many rooms we
will need for 2008. If you are interested in attending,
please contact Doug Wilkins or Brian Duffy. When you
do, we'll keep you informed on specific dates, agendas, ground
transportation, room costs, tour sites, etc.
Thank you for your willingness to make the dreams of thousands
of our nation's most senior heroes come true.

FROM BRIAN DUFFY:
DATE: Oct 21, 2007 Dear Friends,
Greetings and thank you for your interest in
Honor Flight.
Honor Flight is a non profit
organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all
their sacrifices. We fly our heroes to Washington, DC to visit
and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to
the senior veterans – WW II survivors along with those other
veterans that may be terminally ill.
Honor Flight first flew in May
2005 with six small planes flying 12 WW II veterans, departing
out of Springfield, Ohio. In 2006, with a waiting list of
veterans expanding rapidly, we transitioned to commercial
airline carriers to accommodate the maximum number of veterans
as possible. Partnering with HonorAir in Hendersonville, North
Carolina and Hero Flight in Provo, Utah, we formed the “Honor
Flight Network.” Together, we are aggressively expanding our
programs to other cities across the nation in 2007. Based on
recent statistics, we are losing WW II veterans at the rate of
1200 per day. Honor Flight will continue do whatever it
takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and, very
importantly, our senior heroes travel absolutely free.
Subsequent to the WW II
veterans, our efforts will then focus on our Korean and then
Vietnam veterans, honoring them similarly.
HONOR FLIGHT – our way of paying a small tribute to those that
gave so much; to take a memorable, safe, and rewarding FLIGHT
with HONOR!!!
The newly formed Bluegrass Chapter of Honor
Flight, is based in Louisville, Kentucky and serves the
veterans of the region. We are not restricted to
veterans residing in Kentucky.
Our next flight is scheduled for May 21,
2008 from Louisville International Airport. Additional
flight dates for 2008 are planned for August and October.
We invite eligible veterans, and interested
guardians to obtain and fill out an application. Applications
can obtained by contacting us at:
(honorflight at insightbb.com)
or writing: Honor Flight - P.O. Box 43986,
Middletown, KY 40253-0986.
Veteran applicants are processed on a first
come, first served basis. Special consideration is afforded to
those veterans that may have life threatening illnesses.
If you (or your organization, company) would
like information on becoming a flight sponsor or how you
can make a donation to Honor Flight, we would be glad to answer
those questions. Just contact us at 502-608-8497 or by
email/mail. I am also more than willing to make a short
presentation at any meetings.

| This is an excellent opportunity for your Post to Support WW II
Veterans. It costs $250.00 to send a Veteran on this flight.
WW II vets do not have to pay anything. Honor Flight is a 501(c)
charitable organization and raises money to pay the vets portion so I
would encourage your Post to donate money to Honor Flight if you can
afford to. You may also wish to supply a Guardian for a flight
and the Guardian must pay $250.00 for their trip or the Post may wish
to donate the money to the organization as a charitable contribution.
In fact if your Post would like to support the Vets and a guardian the
Post can write 1 check to cover it all. |
Every WW II Vet living needs to go
and we need to show our support for this Program. I am asking that
every Post show their support and start planning for the May 21, 2008 Flight.
The May 21, 2008 flight will be made up of entirely of Louisville (or close by)
veterans.

AMVETS Dues Increase
Starting with 2008 Members. The National and State portion has increased
slightly. The NATIONAL suggested minimum will be $25 for an ANNUAL
Member. This is a suggestion only, the Post owes National and the KY State
Department $18 for each member. The actual National Portion of a persons
dues is $13 (was $11) and Our State Department receives $5 (was $3.50). Each Post can determine
how much if any they get to keep when a person pays their dues. So each
Post can vary across the State as to what they charge for an Annual Member.
To cover what they must pay out they must collect at least $18 from each Post
Member. CLICK HERE for a
new Application Form.
Life Membership is
currently $150. $75 goes to National and $37.50 goes to our State
Department and the Post would keep $37.50.

There is a
group who is showing up at Funeral Services of our fallen American heroes and
protesting. There is also a nationwide group who will attend as invited
guests at the families request with 2 objectives:
1.
Show our sincere respect
for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and friends from
interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.
We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent

AMVETS CONSTITUTION
We, the American Veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and
those who served or are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States
thereafter, fully realizing our responsibility to our community, to our state,
and to our nation, associate ourselves for the following purposes: To
uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States; to safeguard the
principles of freedom, liberty and justice for all; to promote the cause of
peace and goodwill among nations; to maintain inviolate the freedom of our
country; to preserve the fundamentals of democracy; to perpetuate the friendship
and associations of these veterans; and to dedicate ourselves to the cause of
mutual assistance, this by the grace of God.

MEMBERSHIP
To be eligible for membership in AMVETS, you must have served in
the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, anytime after
Sept. 15, 1940. Additionally, unless still serving, your discharge must have
been under honorable conditions. If you served as an American citizen in the
armed forces of an allied nation, under honorable conditions, between Sept. 15,
1940 and May 8, 1975, you are also eligible, as are wartime members of the
Merchant Marine. Proof of eligibility can take the form of a DD-214, an
honorable discharge certificate or other appropriate document. As a rule of
thumb, annual dues are $25, but this amount may vary from state to state or post
to post. Life member dues are a minimum of $150. These dues fund, in part, the
programs, services and representation AMVETS provides.
